What is lipoedema?
Lipoedema is a chronic condition in which excess fat is stored in the legs, and sometimes also the buttocks or arms. Most patients feel pressure, tension, swelling or pain in the legs. This may also be accompanied by cellulitis and bruising. Lipoedema has a tendency to get worse over time. Lipoedema can be effectively treated with liposuction to remove the unwanted fat cells.

What to expect
1.Before the operation
For two weeks before the operation avoid aspirin and other blood thinners. Minimise alcohol consumption and smoking for a few days before the procedure. Ideally you should stop smoking completely.
2.During the operation
Lipoedema liposuction is usually performed under general anaesthesia with an overnight stay in the clinic. The length of the procedure will depend on the scope, but it usually takes two to three hours. You can take a sedative before the procedure begins, if you wish.
3.Post-operation
You may experience swelling and haematomas in the suctioned area, especially in the first two weeks. The extent of the swelling and haematomas varies from individual to individual. You will most likely experience stiffness, mild pain or a burning sensation. The suctioned areas and scars heal gradually and the recovery time usually depends on the client’s overall health and physical fitness.

How much does lipoedema liposuction cost?

There is no age limit for this procedure, although the older you are, the more difficulty your skin may have retracting after the procedure. It may also be a good idea to have excess skin removed after the liposuction procedure, in this case a thigh lift.
How big of a procedure is lipoedema liposuction?
The scope of the procedure depends on the number of zones and volume of fat the surgeon plans to suction. Lipoedema typically involves removing a large volume of fat and thus requires general anaesthesia and an overnight stay at the clinic.
How long do lipedema liposuction results last?
Once removed, the fat cells are gone forever, but the diagnosis lipedema remains. In order to maintain the results, you will need to adhere to healthy eating habits and regular exercise. Generally speaking, patients experience significant and long-term improvements as long as they maintain their weight.
